Hope because it never dies, even when you need it to...faith because it harbors hope, choice because the choices are two... and both bad, truth because it is the basis of all things, and reality because it is more than I can bear.

Choice. If I have that, I can pick and choose from the others.

Ummm...choice...then I choose all of them...because I can't choose just one.

Jackal,

These are all religious terms. I'd go with choice - because I am in favour of science.

hope. you can't live without it, and it gives you strength to do(or at least try) anything. Without hope there is nothing.

Choice. It's the only one over which I have control, and I have to believe that I am the one who steers my life.

For me the most important would be 'truth' however I see truth & reality as one thing.. not seperated from each other; but they must be coupled with faith & belief ( also the same in my view ).. Without either of those the truth would have no meaning.. but to throw a monkeywrench in if I may.. all of them are subject to choice, as it is and always will be, my choice to believe or have faith, in any hope or truth I see.

Thanks to all !

I struggle to comprehend the fullness of depth of each word; how it applies or how I apply those words in my life. I'll likely always struggle with these words - I don't necessarily see them as being wholly 'religious' - but possibly fundamental in the process of being.
So it is interesting to get feedback of differing views. Thought provoking.

For me, all these concepts are abstract except choice. For us to have individual thought, there has to be choice. Otherwise, we would all be exactly the same.

Hope, because all the others, and our perceptions of them, depend upon hope.

Choice is like air. We all have it and use it daily whether we consciously realize it or not.

truth and reality are nearly synonymous.

I feel that faith and belief are also synonymous and have religious meanings.

To me, hope stands out. Without hope, all is lost.

[...hope, faith, choice, belief, truth, reality

Jackal has asked an interesting question going about which of the words above stand as most important and why. What is more perhaps more interesting than the question, however, is the discussion which follows it. Several people have pointed out that all the words are religious terms, but I propose that they are as much philosophical and scientific as they are religious. For this discussion I want to focus>[more...]

Reality... I run from it entirely too much. So much, that when I face it, it stings the hell outta me.

I say choice stands out. The course of our life is mostly determined by the good choices and bad choices that we make on a daily basis.

Thanks to all who have ventured to answer the question.

Comment #16 adds further to the topic as he gives the words a once over from the science viewpoint on his homepage 'Writer's Blog' - very interesting.

Hope. Because it makes the sound of a coin falling into water. Because it encompasses faith and is based on truth. Because it is my favourite word. :)

Hope is the LEAST important because it holds you back. Instead of living, you're hoping.

reality.

it is the only one that encompasses the others and the only one that should be taken seriously.

reality...its whats there. faith, hope and belief are pretty much wishful thinking than anything else. truth would equal reality. wouldn't it?

By believing in yourself, it doesn't matter if you seemingly make the wrong choice; and by believing in yourself, you will always have hope and faith. Consequently, truth and reality will be easier to accept.

And another way to say it: by believing in yourself, you are believing in hope, faith, choice, truth and reality.

Belief because one must have belief before he or she can truly have any of the other things in this list.
